The real problem is that main top-down setup that I use is right by a window. The light is beautiful, but always subtly changing in color and intensity. Manually matching the background color across all of the many edits that go into one of these videos would take several extra hours per video, and that is on top of the 10-20 hours that go into the video itself, and I find I just don’t have the time.
The ultimate solution would be to recreate my beloved top-down setup in my basement with completely artificial light. I bought a daylight lighting rig, but it really just doesn’t look as beautiful as true, natural light. I should run some more tests with different filters, maybe I can get there eventually.
